[Nestor Chayelle] Surprisingly good effects of the Global Warming

Let’s take a different look at our problems

Yes, we know, polluting the only planet that sustains life is bad, but Buddha said: “roadside trash also produces useful things”.

Global warming has brought a lot of consequences: melting ice caps, rising sea levels, loss of habitat for many species, habitable areas become unlivable. If we do nothing about it, we won´t have a good Earth to live anymore.

We should all feel responsible for this and more – but – there have been noticeable positive effects brought by the same evil. Let´s take a look.

  • We might grow more food.

Climate change could produce more agriculture, humankind have been able to produce food via agriculture for thousands of years, what we could not do is to use cold lands to do so – but – Global Warming is making the colder places of Russia and Canada a little bit more agriculture-friendly by rising the temperature. Also, the places that we already use for this purpose is enjoying longer seasons for cultivation and production.

  • Plants may enjoy more Co2.

Almost every living being on earth expels Carbon Dioxide (Co2) the only ones that live off of it are plants. One of the most harmful causes of Global Warming is the excess of Co2 we are releasing given our way of energy consumption – but – Plants are having a good time from it, they have been growing larger and robust than ever. Meaning that if we care for planting more they will be thriving.

  • Circumnavigating the globe is getting easier.

The ice-free Arctic Ocean could mean raising the levels of the sea and swallowing places and even cities –but – could be good news for shipping companies. Shipping through the Polar Regions is close to being an alternative during the summer months. This could mean that the world’s largest ships that are too big for the Panama Canal, which have to navigate South America, would have a much shorter route between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans becoming a cheaper option for bringing and carrying goods.

  • Less Energy Required For Heating
This obvious benefit of warmer winters has yet to come to pass, as recent winters have actually been colder than normal - but - theory indicates that rising temperatures will provide longer summers and not so cold winters and we would not use so much energy these seasons.
