Nestor Chayelle - Could Global warming motivate us to reuse old clothes?

Climate benefits from reusing old clothes

Sustainable clothing is a new movement that promotes recycling old clothes. The brand Cheap Monday created a new collection called “C/O Cheap Monday.\" This collection consists of recycled clothes that the company re-fashioned to sell it again.

Climate change is modifying our habits and lifestyle. Global warming is on the rise, and one of the main causes for this is pollution from human activity. This situation is a concern and many people look for alternatives to reduce the impact of global warming.

A new alternative is reusing old clothes. Every time we discard old and unwanted clothing, we contribute to the rise of pollution. Reusing old clothes has many benefits to the environment. For this reason, this practice has been recently promoted by the Cheap Monday brand.

The brand launched a collection called “C/O Cheap Monday." The company takes old clothes and refashion them into new clothes, then it’s sold again. The collection is made up of jeans, tees and bomber jackets. People have the opportunity to deposit their old and unwanted clothes in Cheap Monday’s stores, and the company gives them money off for it. Then, they use those clothing to create new collections.

Cheap Monday explained that they are doing this movement in order to raise awareness about the damage caused to the Earth.

“We are taking our first steps but have high hopes to be fully sustainable with our denim and apparel collection by FW2018”, said Nadia Kokni, marketing director at Cheap Monday.

The company is exploring how to work with recycled textiles in its new collection. This collection pretends to promote recycling and re-using clothes materials. Cheap Monday expects that sustainable clothing becomes part of all its collections. This movement also seeks to be followed by other brands concerned about the environment. Until now, 69 % of denim and apparel collection sold by the brand is sustainable clothing. They are also working to reduce the use of new cotton and replaced it by pre and post consumer waste.

Don’t throughout your old clothes. Be part of this movement and re-use your clothes.
